Next month’s roster of activities at East County Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

Adult Programs

English Café

6 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 6, 13, 20, 27

Free, informal conversation sessions for adult ESOL/ESL students.

East County Craft Club: Personalized Tote Bags

2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9

Create a unique and personalized a tote bag stencils and acrylic paint. Registration is required. This program is intended for ages 18 and up.

Chess Anyone?

2 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 11, 18, 25

Rise to the chess challenge and join the fun. Chess enthusiasts of all ages are welcome. Bring your own chess set or use one of ours.

Book Discussion: “Now Is Not the Time to Panic” by Kevin Wilson

3:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11

An exuberant, bighearted novel about two teenage misfits who spectacularly collide one fateful summer, and the art they make that changes their lives forever.

11 a.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 12, 26

Receive personalized help downloading e-books, movies, music and more from Overdrive/Libby and Hoopla, two of Lee County Library System’s largest online content providers. Bring your fully charged digital device for this hands-on help session. Note: Please bring any passwords you may need for downloading apps. Kindle users will also need an Amazon account and their password for accessing it.

Knit and Stitch

5 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 13, 27

A casual, self-guided group of knitters and crocheters that join together to share projects, ideas and techniques. Participants are encouraged to bring their own projects and tools. Basic materials and supplies are available for newcomers.

Children’s Programs

Toddler Tales

10:30 a.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 5, 12, 19, 26

For ages 18-36 months and caregivers. Toddlers and caregivers move and groove during this interactive storytime.

Family Storytime

10:30 a.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 6, 13, 20, 27

For children through age 5 and caregivers. Families with young children enjoy a variety of stories, songs, rhymes and movement.

Preschool Storytime

10:30 a.m. Thursdays, Sept. 7, 14, 21, 28

For ages 3- 5. Children attend this program independently while parents and caregivers wait nearby.

Kids Read Down Fines

11 a.m. – Noon Saturday, Sept. 9

2 – 6 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 11, 18, 25

Children and teens can earn a $2 credit on overdue fines for every 15 minutes they read in the designated area for a total of $8 in one session. Please bring your library card.

Read to the Dogs

11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9

Join us at the library for reading to dogs. The dogs are registered therapy animals who volunteer with their owner/handlers as a team to help improve the literacy skills of children. Children can read down fines or just develop a love of reading through reading to dogs.

Build It at the Library

1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16

Use your imagination to build with Lego bricks, cardboard and more.

Baby Rhyme Time

10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23

For babies up to 18 months. Babies and caregivers wiggle and giggle in a supportive environment. Space is limited. Arrive early and visit the children’s desk to check in. First come, first served.

Bilingual Storytime and Author Visit

10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30

Children and their families are invited to a special storytime in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. Local authors Yajaida and Michelson Aristhyl will be reading their book “La Casita Hispaniola.” This bilingual storytime shares the story of a home and family where the cultures of Haiti and the Dominican Republic blend. There will also be music, singing and other activities that will make this a storytime you do not want to miss.

Teen Programs

High School Game Day

2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1

Play board games, video games, card games and more at the library. High school teens are invited to join us for fun, games and socializing with friends after school.

Library Teen Talk

2 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 5, 12, 19, 26

High school teens are invited to the library for a weekly discussion about current events, everyday life, library resources and more. Teens will be encouraged to post an answer to a weekly question while socializing and making new friends.

Welcome Back High Schoolers Party

2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13

High school students are invited to celebrate the start of a new school year with music, food and games. See why the library should be your after-school destination.

High School Movie

2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20

High school teens are invited to sit back and enjoy a movie. Bring your friends and some snacks. Please call the East County Regional Library for the movie title before the event. Movie ratings range from G to PG-13.

TAG: Teen Advisory Group

5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26

Be a part of the East County Regional Library’s Teen Advisory Group (TAG) and help make your library’s teen area the place to be. TAG members assist with program planning, suggest book titles, and help create displays in the teen area. Service hours and light snacks provided. For teens, ages 12-17.
